Lots of interesting stuff on that site.

As others have pointed out "basic strategy" only minimises the house edge. To tip it in your favour you have to count which is practically impossible with a continuously shuffled shoe of 6 or 8 decks. Even if you can do it, the betting pattern is so obvious to the casino that you'll be thrown out, which is why the MIT team used several people performing different roles to make it less obvious.

I am an excellent driver though.

I believe it is the similar with card counting except that done correctly it will remove the house edge and give you an edge. However, I think that there are ways that the casino can nullify the card counter.

Was a member of a casino in Glasgow back in the day when you had to be vouched for by two existing members and evening wear required. I wasn't interested in gambling just somewhere to go for a late drink and the restaurant which was subsidised (might need booking four weeks ahead to get a table at weekends), five people having three courses plus wine less than £20
On the rare occasion I did go to the tables I restricted myself to gambling a tenner, when that was done it was back to the bar but that could last an hour or two (and free booze and food at the tables too).
One agency night out, remember those? When agents took out all the contractors and paid for booze and food? Anyway, we all ended up in the casino. I was as pished as I've ever been and hit the tables with a vengeance, made a few quid on the Blackjack table and then hit roullete. I was losing heavily but no recollection after that till I woke up at home the next morning. The then Mrs Cliphead asked me if I remembered getting home at 5am which of course I didn't but arrived in a black hack taxi which I'd hired from the casino which was a forty mile trip.
Still not sober I started to get some recall about writing cheques for more chips and the realisation set in I'd probably blown a month's dosh. She asked me to check my suit pockets.
Found the cheques I wrote so I had bought them back, every pocket both trousers and suit jacket stuffed with cash. I've no idea what I won or how I did it but I had around £5k not counting the cheques. Never been back in a casino since, so I guess I'm well up on the house.

Gambling is a tax on the stupid. It should be outlawed.
Then the poor can spend more time being wage slaves to assist the rich in their lifestyles.
