Interestingly, Labour have put more effort into staying in power than anything else, so you do have a point.

As wendo says about frog boiling, you should know better benn0. Anyone with the basic intelligence required to type words on a website should be capable of understanding where the UK is going under our socialist government. It would be interesting to hear where you think it is going!

    Roaring economy?
    Decreasing national debt?
    Decreasing personal debts?
    Increasing personal savings for retirement?
    Reductions in red tape?
    Reductions in crime?
More children passing exams of the same standards of twenty five years ago?
Less people having to wait for NHS hospital treatment?
People waiting shorter times for NHS hospital treatment?
    NHS dentists for all?
    Happy integration of multiple cultures?
    Five million more immigrants:
    * Paying the pensions for happy retirees whilst never retiring themselves?
    * Happy not to drive to avoid gridlocking our road system?
    * Happy not to travel at all to avoid gridlocking our public transport?
    * Happy to live in factory basements to avoid building houses over the rest of the countryside?
    * Happy not to use water, electricity or gas to avoid shortages?
    * Happy to declare themselves if they are potential terrorists or other felons?
    * Happy to turn themselves in if they are illegal, so they can pay taxes?
Independence from the EU and the USA?
    International peacemaker?
Increasing sense of security on the streets and public transport?
No fear of being spied on wherever you go, whatever you do?
A national rail network that pays for itself, or at least stops borrowing more and more every year?
    Decreasing unemployment?
Increasing employment in the private sector (that's the UK private sector, not India's!)

Well benn0, our socialist government are going a funny way about achieving that lot! But you carry on bigging them up!

Look around and see how everyone else has moved on and got on with their lives - you are seriously endangering your health, not to mention your sex life. You need to take more care of yourself, go to some anger management classes, not viewing every situation as a means of "getting one over on someone", not to be so blinkered and not to blindly believe in principles that are based on idealistic marxist nonsense. Will you find an end to your struggle when the token icon of your parent's hatred dies? Or will you simply look for another excuse to blame for holding you back?"

The type of statement illustrating the working class are not entirely extinct.

Evil Agenda? Are you sure, benn0?

You can be a bit of a goat yourself sometimes!

I'm old enough to remember when our country was under labour rule in 1978 during which there were a large number of strikes by:-

    trade unions
    grave diggers
    lorry drivers
    automobile workers
    refuse collectors
    public sector employees
    power station workers (power cuts)

A UK record amount of 1,658,000 striking workers involved in 11,663,000 lost days between 1975-1979.

All demanding larger pay rises for their members, and the government of James Callaghan struggling to cope.

The strikes were a result of the attempted enforcement of the Labour government's rule that pay rises be kept below 5%, and began in private industry before spreading to the public sector.

Nice to see Tone has done the reverse this time. However, anyone notice the similar gnawing signs of 1979 and today? i.e. a labour government sticking their snouts into every single thing that moves and red taping it?

I had no love for the Tories when they were in and was happy when Labour got elected.
Now I realise the error of my ways and, to be honest, anybody who says they are old enough to remember the Tories and do not realise what a pile of 5h1te this lot are is a fecking idiot.

Working classes - there is a hint in the name here. It used to be those who tended to do the relatively low skilled manual work which was relatively lowly paid. However they did at least work - hence the working bit. What we have now is a class below this. This Chav class don't want to work because they can get almost as much via their disability benefits etc than they could get through doing 40 hours working. Plus this frees up plenty of time for them to do a bit of cash in hand work to supplement their benefits.

Who are these 'Working Classes' you refer to?

The 'Working Classes' were a noble people who lived in this land once upon a time.

They used to work hard, often for too little reward, but nevertheless kept their pride and standards.

They valued self-improvement and education. They wanted what was rightfully theirs, and fought for those rights, but didn't despise success in others. They upheld strong community values and supported each other in times of hardship, yet valued independence.

They were active in politics (not to be confused with the activities of the Nu Labor Party), campaigning and debating.

Do we actually have any 'working class' people or communities left in the UK today Benn0?

Sadly, I think these estimable folk have gone the way of the Dodo - and not just because of Thatcher and her 'evil agenda' (ffs!).

The people you call 'Working Class' are nowadays, mostly basket cases and leaches on the generosity of the state.

Anyone with a job (I mean a real job, not some made-up local authority job) is not a member of this former 'Working Class'.

But not old enough to remember the atrocious state in which the country was left by the previous Labour administration...?

Edit - Tony beat me to it.

But not old enough to remember the clapped out near bankrupt state the country was in before Thatcher took over. Still bitter because your dad lost his job down the state subsidised union controlled pit/steel works/car factory and too blinkered to see how the New Labour miracle economy is based on the solid foundations laid down in those painful years during the 80's.

Presumably if you had your way we would all be driving around in the year 2006 heavilly subsidised version of an Austin Allegro, built from heavily subsidised British Steel and powered by heavilly subsidised british coal.
