Monkey Butler was the younger brother of postwar Conservative chancellor Rab Butler. Though a popular fixture on the northern working men's club circuit with his ribald impersonations of Hugh Gaitskell and Reginald Maudling, he was ever to remain in his elder sibling's shadow.
