Hit the ground running, must mean realising that you have wasted an hour of your time in an interview for a contract that is either out of your reach or too low paid, and you jump out of the window hoping to find a few more on jobserve.

An update
There's been a marked upturn in demand for hitting the ground running over the past two days. 74 out of 11977 UK IT contracts this week place an emphasis on the speed of your ground-hitting (I include the Ruining one). That's 25% up.
There's also a niche demand for people who can 'hit the floor running'. I take this to be the indoor equivalent, and so far 2/3 of the demand is in Shropshire.
