When you say proper lease, what exactly are you looking for? What are the pitfalls?
P.S Appreciate the candid remarks and figures - I've always wondered what it was like to own a shop and the ROI.

There are a number of reasons why I closed the shop down, the main reason though was it was in the wrong town with the wrong staff, the wrong customers and then the landlords doubled my rent overnight because I had the wrong lease.
So effectively shop 1 was turning about 180k turnover, making a profit of about 23k and the rent increase was 15k. So this particular shop wasnt worth my time. Soon as the profit on one unit dropped to less than 10k it wasnt worth it compared to contracting and time it takes me.
The thing is most people dream of making 50k, 70k a year. As a contractor I can clear near to 100k a year fulltime, so it makes it very difficult to make a jump to new things.
Im going to contract until October and will then open a new shop with a proper lease for xmas.

what happened to the shop ?
So what happened to the shop MF ? You seemed to be securing supply at the right price, website in place to expand the reach ? I was impressed at you having a go at something different, some talk of other shops etc. Just not enough people coming through the door ? Seems like all such independant retailers are unable to compete.

So MF are your shop keeper days behind you now?
Time for a new avatar?

"Not as amusing as reading on how (allegedly) MF had his own time of having to walk the plank "
That was the 1st time in 8 years, it was personal and I followed it up all the way to just before court action with a number of letters (cost £300), then my new baby was born and I decided I just didnt have the time to take it to court to win £1500.

They cited that he clearly didnt have the experience he reckoned, he was too slow, not quick on the uptake and asked too many questions.
No doubt he will blag his way into another contract.

I managed to get the work turned around and looks like I will be staying.
Mordac will be missed though.

Couldnt even login in to the application he was supposedly an expert of. Didnt know where the connect to database screen was!!!!!!!
I had interviewed earlier in the month and had been asked to start the next day but said I wasnt available for 10 days while I closed the shop. The agent went and got someone else who took a week to start, he was cheaper and obviously crap. LOL.Last edited by MarillionFan; 26 July 2006, 18:19.
