Tourists won't put up a £3k bond.
This only makes sense for students etc - sensible decision actually, if it causes less hassle to get visa.

It probably discourages a lot of honest people too, but opens up a legion of possibilities for shady money lenders.Originally posted by KentPhilip View PostSeems like a good idea to me, because it discourages dishonest people (those who would overstay their visa) from coming to the UK.

Brilliant opportunity for loan sharks and people smugglers, and a huge administrative nightmare.Originally posted by rd409 View PostIndia warns over UK plan to make visitors pay £3,000 bond
So if UK can keep those money for 6 months, that would be millions of free cash! The exact plans are not yet drafted, but if the bond is to be repaid as soon as they leave, that is going to be one big logistic nightmare. As already mentioned by someone in the article, if someone has made up their mind to stay illegally this amount can be earned in a matter of months. So this might just be another pay your way into UK scheme after the highly publicized HSMP few years back.
