    Tourists won't put up a £3k bond.

    This only makes sense for students etc - sensible decision actually, if it causes less hassle to get visa.

    So if UK can keep those money for 6 months, that would be millions of free cash! The exact plans are not yet drafted, but if the bond is to be repaid as soon as they leave, that is going to be one big logistic nightmare. As already mentioned by someone in the article, if someone has made up their mind to stay illegally this amount can be earned in a matter of months. So this might just be another pay your way into UK scheme after the highly publicized HSMP few years back.
