Britian really needs an education system which does not allow people to leave school without being able to read and write.

If you get to 13 and cannot do those basic skills you get deported to one of the colonies

Some of the parents are in their 20s - and I had to say "parents" rather than "parent" as the guys are generally good at threatening to kill a teacher who tells their kid off.

I've heard stories over the years of an area not that far from me full of primary schools where kids arrive at age 4/5 wearing nappies, not being able to eat with cutlery and not being able to talk properly simply because their parents are teenagers and don't have a clue.
