    True, and that's why I said "traditionally".

    But an upper class family living in a country pile aren't necessarily loaded, sometimes quite the opposite.

    So instead of cranking up the heating they'll often economise by simply wearing more jumpers.

    As I said I have such a house with highe ceilings and large bay single glazed windows, as well as fire places in each room. However more people have installed central heating in these types of houses.
