Great performance by Italy against Germany, beating the home team on their own ground which hitherto they had never lost an international match.

The best match Ive seen yet in the tournament.

Good luck for the World Cup !

Good that the Germans said that simply Italy were the better team and deserve their victory, makes a refreshing change.

    Up the Azzuri!!

Apparently Carvalho was in the running for FIFA's prestigious "Golden Ball" award. But when they examined him, his balls were black and blue, so he was disqualified. Boom Boom!

    I'll get me coat ....

Catching a football down there is bad enough, and, presumably like you, I've stood in enough walls to know.
Stamped in the region doesn't mean it connected, and either way that part is irrelevent - Rooney kicked back in frustration, he caught Carvalho - whether it was directly in the gonads, in his groin or a gentle tap on the back of his calf al la Beckham 98 it makes no difference - it was retaliation and it was a clear red card.

And I've been hit enough times with a ball to know that after a couple of minutes I'm running around as per normal. Again besides the point. Rooney is an awesome player who has a tendency when he's frustrated to do let his temper get the better of him - he's lashed out more than enough times for oppositions to know it's an issue and play to it - if you need examples then there are more than enough ones in a an England shirt, without going near anything else. And if it was Man U (Assuming you're not man u) playing against your team I know this conversation wouldn't be happening.

The Italians looked as if they enjoyed every minute and played some really wonderful soccer.

How remarkable that he was PERFECTLY OK within moments of Rooney being sent off. Stamped in the nuts my arse.

Been for a week already and caught three games and gotta say it's the best tournament I've ever been to (My fourth).
Good for you. Hope you are enjoying Germany. I understand there is a terrific night life in Berlin. Should be a hell of a party.

Was that French fans ? Difficult to accept there were that many English fans there last night.

If it was French fans, it would seem there is equal resentment toward Ronaldo outside England.

    as for knowing about football

But Alf in another post you told us you supported Hamilton Accies!

Rooney (like the whole squad in fact) was let down badly by Sven (show me the money) Goran Erikson. Had there been striking cover Rooney could have played in his best position (just off the main striker) which he could have performed well even though he was obviously not fully fit.
He does have a temper/attitude problem and he's also one of the most gifted natural footballers these islands have produced for a long time, the two are not mutually exclusive. Will he learn to temper the temper, maybe and maybe not.
I think it becomes ever more clear that Erikson could organise a team to get results at the level of their team's ability but he can't motivate players to any extent. I'm also concerned (for england's sake) that McLaren doesn't seem to be any better at that.
