    What about the first passport of my wife? She has a maiden name and married name, presumably she will need the marriage cert?

    I've got 4 kids and never sent or was ask to send my marriage certificate (original or copy) for any of them. I know this for sure because we lost the certificate soon after we got married and found it 12 years later at the back of the wedding photo album.

    given the declining numbers of parents who are actually married - I'm surprised they are using the certificate as authentication check
