Originally posted by dang651. England to take the lead within the first 7 minutes with a blinding show of individual skill from Rooney.
2. 80 minutes later, Portugal equalise after getting away with a blatant offside. The ball is clearly knocked into the net by the Portugese player's hand, but the referee doesn't notice. The England goalkeeper is red carded although he was actually fouled himself and was completely blameless. Sven replaces Rooney with the spare goalkeeper.
3. The game goes to extra time. England resist 30 minutes of constant assault, barely able to take possession of the ball for more than a few seconds but foiling Portugal at every turn.
4. Penalty shoot-out.
5. Rubbish tips across the country groan under the weight of dumped England flags. Any remaining British hopes for Wimbledon are knocked out. It starts raining.

The poll after 25 votes @ 10:43 Jun 29, predicts :-
England 2 Portugal 1
An Argentinian ref. Blimey that doesn't seem a very clever choice by FIFA.
Very amusing someone here hinted about half the Portugese team red carded but England only scrape through 1-0

Banks was on the near post when Jairzinho crossed to the far, where Pele headed down toward the corner. How Banks got across and then down to the foot of the post was amazing.
