I use my own laptop on most gigs as it contains my code library and I use my own software, you know, IR35 and all that. I once caught a permie trying to hack into my machine to copy all of my code library. I stopped him, then started loading porn onto his machine, which he got sniffy about.

I'll never forget that prick, as he got very aggro when I got onto his machine, forgetting what he'd done the previous day.

I don't approve of theft. But it must be difficult being a cleaner on a few quid an hour working harder than people who are earning many multiples for less work. But that is the way of the world.

Of course being a cleaner for KentPhilip has its own bonuses.

I caught a permie going through my desk and reading my printed technical reports so he could use my knowledge. I wrote another report with load of misinformation and left it in my desk. Next meeting his report contained a load of tripe that was ridiculed by the other techies.

I've always been an 'early start, early finish' kind of person, mainly to miss the busy traffic on my motorbike. I've lost count of the number of times I've walked into the office first thing to find cleaners stealing. Every time I've seen it, I've reported it to my manager the same day: don't want to take the rap for this kind of thing myself.
