    The idea (IIRC) was that you'd boycott Shell, BP and Texaco - the brands that influence the prices - and buy from the little guys.

    Too many people who put their own interests before the collective, or believe that one person won't make any difference. Like those petrol boycotts a few years back - if everyone had boycotted the big brands on the right day it really would have been noticed.

    The origin of the word is actually quite an interesting historical tale.
    Is was coined when a Yorkshire cricketman, Geoffrey Boycott, refused to pay any more subscriptions to the MCC because they refused to allow him to wear his flat cap at Lords

    I was stupid enough to think that the Occupy movement would trigger this and sacrificed a good 6 months earnings to the cause ...

    It has happened historically, but I reckon that marketing and indoctrination has got to a point that we just cant compete with. The masses are conditioned.
