I'd thought about an old school approach - tell em to fix it themselves or walk... seems a tad harsh - but they will definitely be assisting as they did most of the grunt work when dropping the gearbox to replace the clutch in the old Yaris - but I know who will have to sort it out if things go wrong

Sell your yaris in autotrader for whatever you can get for it and buy a landrover with the proceeds.

Cheap insurance and easy to fix.

Buy the car off gumtree, have it delivered and say to your kids, "right, you want a car? There's the bits, get it sorted!".

They may be a bit more careful next time.

They do hold their value quite well - comparable ones on Auto trader / Ebay are £1500- £2000 whereas the gumtree is £295

Given the likely hood of further incidents I don't really want to spend large amounts on a replacement

Son just wrote off the Yaris with severe front damage by hitting a concrete bollard- the car is mine but bought so the kids could use it
I'd just fitted a new clutch and 4 new tyres (actually a garage fitted the tyres but you get my drift)
I'm looking for a donor vehicle to swap bits about and get a working vehicle

I've just seen on gum tree a Yaris with a seized engine that I could transplant and bonus it's just down the road and cheap as chips

Anyone bought off gum tree before? - the last time I used it was for renting a flat & it seemed to be full of Nigerian fraudsters.

Obviously do a HPI check and VIN numbers tally etc - any other checks to do?
