I used to do 'day trading' for a while and used to make some ok money on the side until the day when I lost £10'000 in 5 minutes. I felt physically sick for 3 days! As they say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Do you already have property by any chance? Anyone who has property will say that! Also, previous post about whatever goes up also comes down is true. I know its not the same as gravity but why not learn from history...
    House price graph

Prices will go up over time just as everything else does. Its called inflation, but as the graph shows that certainly isn't just inflation - neither can it be sustained. Just a matter of when...what do you think??

    Expat,

whatever you do, restrain yourself from making rushed decisions.

Take your time, try not to worry about the future be it financial, social or whatever.

Think about taking the opportunity to work in places you might have been restricted from working in for social reasons.

Try to step back from everything.

    Just some thoughts,

    Milan.

    No jobs?

PS forgive me for pointing out that assets are "worth" what they're valued at. I don't think that's particularly communist.

Why don't you continue on the mainland and put some $$
in the bank ? Or is it a case you just want to go back to the
    UK ?

Don't worry you don't have to answer this, or discuss your personal
    affairs here.

I would suggest, try to delay decisions and not make rush decisions.

Make a five year plan to accumulate some $$$.

Well all the best with everything.

    Milan.
Sensible advice. I want to be back in the UK. I've had enough of weekly commutes. I need to invest some income again (the last lot did work well, as far as the arithmetic went) and I also need somewhere to live. I'm not dogmatic about property (rent is money down the drain, but so is interest: or either can be viewed as the price for something you want) but it seems to me that buying the house you live in is a special case. But no, where I want to live now is not where I want to live forever, so the market does matter.

I think the advice is sound. I will rent for a while and accumulate.

That is irrelevant - if you get in trouble with repayments you cannot realise those assets unless you sell up and hit the streets.
