    The current US population is 295 million. Mass immigration from lots of different countries is probably the main reason, including lots of Catholics from Italy, Ireland and Spain (and ex-Spanish colonies) which equals very large families.

    First successful American colony was Jamestown, Virginia, founded in 1607.

    USA had immigration from other parts of the world besides the UK

    We had high infant mortality rate up until fairly recently
    We also founded other colonies which lost us population
    Constant wars
