I just felt that the narrative was not strong enough to carry the weight of the central conceit, essentially that there was a good story to be hung onto this premise, but this wasn't it. Same goes for Great Apes, which had some brilliant 'set pieces' but not enough meat to hang them together, and a weakish ending.Is there a reason you picked on Flytopia?
But I am glad that people are reading Self, even on a bad day he can write most modern authors off the page ...
