Ah Dodgy, you're a credit to your industry. And no, that's not a compliment

    Aker solutions jobs for London

The one area where there is no skills shortage is for Engineers working on oilfields projects. The headline should have said "jobs boost for immigrant engineers" it makes Cameron's remarks look very stupid.

Oil & gas industry services firm Aker Solutions will create 1,300 new jobs at a London engineering hub by 2015.

The jobs will be based at its new office in Chiswick Park, West London, which opened last year. The news also comes three weeks after the announcement it would create 500 new jobs in the North-East of Scotland, as reported by recruiter.co.uk.

(L-R) Eriksen, Norwegian PM Jens Stoltenberg, Cameron
Up to 200 of the roles will be for customer representatives, with other roles including specialist engineers, project managers and administrative personnel.

Øyvind Eriksen, executive chairman at Aker Solutions, says: “Oil & gas engineers in London are typically experienced, highly competent and they have an international mindset.

“By combining our own experience with this expertise we can offer our customers engineering related to field architecture, products and technologies both in the North Sea and internationally.”

The firm employs 3,100 people across the UK, all but 400 of whom are currently based in Scotland. It employs 25,000 worldwide.

Prime Minister David Cameron says the announcement "is a vote of confidence in the skill, expertise and professionalism of our engineering sector”.

"International mindset" means that most of them are from abroad
