Yep, big advantage with the Concept 2 is that it's almost indestructible, so if you're a serious sportsman it's the best choice; some other machines just aren't built for the forces a concept 2 can handle. If you're less serious though, you might not need to spend so much.

I found your earlier reference to your Fluid Rower and I have to say it looks excellent, I'm really tempted. Any comment on maintenance? How long have you owned it now? Any negatives?

I've had it around 8 months. I find I have to tighten it up once every 8 weeks or so (using it every day) which takes around 30 secs. It comes as a kit and takes a while to put together. If you go and buy it from their showroom they have several rowers on display - it's really essential to try it out and see if it'll suit you before buying. I got a substantial discount by turning up in person at the London showroom so there's definitely haggle room on the price.

I've got a water rower rather than a Concept 2. I liked the reliability of the Concept 2 but for me it did have a noticeable "snatch" at the end of each stroke I found the water rower (a Fluid E316) was much smoother on my joints and I also prefer the sound the water rower makes in use.

I've bought a WaterRower and been really happy with it.

It's smaller and cheaper than a lot of other brands. Also since the resistance is created by a drum of water, it has a good resistance and pleasant water flowing sound.
