    The one time I suffered a speeding fine in the UK, the police had followed me for "four tenths of a mile". This was in the days before electronic wizardry so the distance might not be the same now.

    I went back and measured it via the odometer later. I thought they might have been slightly exaggerating the distance between two sets of lights, but it was a close call and did I really want to turn it into my word versus the word of two police officers? Nope.
