All the above aside, here is the important bit:
Pubs - All the usual, O'Neills, Pitcher and Piano, Slug and Lettuce etc etc etc. Then there are the pubs like the Hobgoblin which is a CAMRA pub I believe, so you have the lot. And of course there is the obligatory 17 year old girls flitting between them in miniskirts and strap tops freezing their little titties off...
Lapdancing - The Honeypot. tulip but the best there is until the rumoured Spearmint Rhino opens in Caversham.
Shopping - Oracle. End of...

The only bus I've seen has its windows blacked out and goes up Broadmoor way without stopping - never seems to come back out again.

I stayed in Reading once, didn't get a wink of sleep due to the amount of police cars hoofing up and down the street all bloody night long. Don't forget that its in England which means you're liable to get glassed if you look at some other blokes bird.

You're all suburbanites at heart!
The real contractors will be paying for this :

with £50 notes in brown envelopes. Just a stones throw from Paddington for the 'reverse' commute.

There is a reading office, but most advertise on rightmove....have a look on the site www.rightmove.co.uk to get a better idea for prices in regard to rent vs hotels.
I forgot about Twyford, its a little gem and has excellent rail links....10 mins to reading one way, 20 mins to london the other.

When either Reading FC or London Irish (who play home games in Reading ) the away clubs tend to stay in the Hilton or Coppid Beech Hotels on the Wokingham/Bracknell border which may be a clue as to the decency of the area. I'll always vote for Wokingham but the whole area has some great traditional market towns - Twyford is well worth looking at and has direct train links to Reading and Paddington.
Romans Estate Agents are amongst the top in the area for letting and I'm sure they have a Reading Office as well as in most of the other towns in the area.

You will have no problems finding good food, drink and entertainment in Reading. The Oracle shopping complex has everything you need. Shopping, food, drink and a cinema. Its lively at night too...

In terms of living, all large towns or small cities have good and bad areas to live in.....the best thing to do in my opinion is look at the train stops around Reading....Wokingham, is highly recommended as its quiet and country like...only 15 mins on a train too. If you want to look in Reading, then search google for estate agents reading, they will be able to recommend nice places...then from there, get the nice places and look at BnB's or hotels in the area if thats your thing.
Good luck
