I'd imagine most of those guys there are not in it for the money and what money they do get probably means isolation from family and friends unless all your friends are already there.
It is exciting. Takes us ever closer to understanding what symmetry has to do with the whole thing and perhaps closer to answering question such as: What is the relationship between math and reality? Do we really exist? Am I free to determine my own will or does it just seem that way?

Volcanology is supposed to be sexy science, as probably discovered by a newspaper reporter.

I would have rather working on the JET project. IMO fusion is alot more useful than CERN. The sooner we can tell OPEC where to stick their oil the better.Originally posted by Moose423956 View PostI am becoming very excited by the goings on at CERN. Will they prove the existence of the Higgs boson? Will they prove it's non-existence? Such an exciting time to be a physicist. Wish I'd kept it up and studied it at uni, not gone into the tedious world of minerals, rocks and fossils. Might even have been involved at CERN. I'd love to wake up every morning with a large hadron.

Are you sure about that?Originally posted by pjclarke View PostThey can prove it's nonexistence, but only provide evidence for its existence, to be pedantic.
But it's there alright, at around about 125GeV, you mark my words.
