My mother knew that they had been at school together when I asked her, but I only got a one-word answer which is normally a warning not to try digging any further.

My Grandfather (well, the one of the two that I got to meet) was at school with Arthur C. Clarke.

Unfortunately, I didn't realise that until a few years after Grandad died when I was listening to a programme about Arthur on Radio 4 and connected when he was born and where he went to school.

There could have been some fascinating conversations that I never got the chance to have.

Clarkey's predictions were almost spot on for the moon landings, but, sadly, way out for Mars.
