    EU Directive?

Didn't the EU introduce a(nother) directive regarding disposal of old IT equipment? I think recycling/disposal companies have to be BSxxxx/ISOxxxx approved.
Even if you give away electrical equipment with a disclaimer, you are still potentially liable for any injury caused by ..etc., etc.

In my old permie role we ended up with about 40 CRT monitors to get rid of. In the end a school took most of them, but we found out that schools are reluctant to take old computer equipment as they have to pay to have them electrically tested.

Apparently, some companies which take old kit container it off to Africa and India. One of the chaps mentioned that the Indians convert the CRT monitors in to tellies.

Have a look through the list of Charities in the local Thompson directory.

Be advised however, that you probably have to pay them to take them, as we had to do recently.

The local hospice charged £5 per PC and £10 per monitor. We had over 30 monitors to dispose of, and 12 base units.

    Disposing of equipment

What do most people do with old equipment?

I have 2 desktops and 2 17" monitors that I want to get rid of. Both work, both have Windows 98 installed. Is there somewhere that you can donate them?

    Any suggestions?
