Or, in the real world, not even remotely surprising.

Really? Didn't you write the requirements?

You do realise Suity that all those so-called excuses, especially the request for a walkthrough, were their way, rightly or wrongly, of telling you they didn't fully understand the requirements?
If they don't understand the requirements, then they can only blame the person who wrote the requirements specification.

    And they will.

And because there are more of them than there are of him, they will win the argument, the implication being that if a whole group of people can't understand the document then the document must be at fault.

We need a formal walkthrough of the requirements.
There may be changes coming we need to factor in.
We need time to learn the tool properly.
    Yada yada yada

Couldn't get a frakin word in.

So I raised my voice so I could be heard, and fimly but politely spelt out exactly what I expect, exactly what I was not prepared to accept in terms of excuses and told them to jolly well get on with it.

Worse still, the PM had sat there throughout the call just shaking his head in disbelief rather than actually jumping on the situations as they arose.

I am pleased I took a firm stand as they are now all towing the line.

Then afterwards the PM asked me to "temper" my approach.

Sometimes these things need to be said, and the air cleared. It's a part of life.

Make room on the bench for me I reckon.

Listen suitster, I told you during your 'should i pack it in thread' to get in there, lay down the law and kick some ass !

Walk up to the PM, punch him as hard as you can, If possible, an uppercut to the chin, and say, quietly, "Temper that, motherf****r".

Tell him you expect him to take control of the situation, so next time YOU don't HAVE to step in. Remind him, if he can't do that, you're happy to escort him to the car park.

You listen to me suity. If you do what I say, at the end of your contract, you'll be carried out of that place shoulder high by a bunch of guys singing "For he's a jolly good fellow" while the women stand around the door dabbing tears from their eyes with lace hankies.
Wild thang, I think I lurve you.
