    45 (ish) years years ago I had a Dinky (or Corgi?) model of a Rover 3 litre with a single bulb lighting the front and rear lights via glass tubes.

    Modern technology, eh?

    40 years ago my Fiat had a single bulb for the dashboard connected by fibre optic cables. Try changing a bulb on the dashboard on today's cars. It's a three hour job.
