Used to go to the Prince of Wales in the Old Town when I lived up there 15 years ago or so. Had an assortment of unusual objects hanging from the ceiling from what I recall. Very quirky place.
Then there was a corner shop not far from there & the owner would often have his sound system on. Wasn't uncommon to see him dancing on the counter with a shopping basket on his head some nights.

The yellow boards were a regular fixture around clapham south 8-10 years ago. I don't think it's improved that much, gone downhill if anything judging by my last visit a few years back. Oblivion was always fun though. The trouble is however gentrified it gets you are never more than 5 or 10 minutes from some fairly manky estates, so will always get a bit of that spilling over.Originally posted by sasguru View PostI think Clapham Common/South is OK if a little young. I certainly don't recognise your description of loads of yellow boards etc. London does change you know.
So you don't live in the village proper then?
The only thing between me and the high street is the village green. What would you call it if not the villiage?Last edited by doodab; 27 September 2011, 11:01.

I live on the edge of wimbledon common just around the corner from the hand in hand etc, not sure why you think it's crappy, perhaps lacking a prison and riots means it's not "edgy" enough for you?

It's simple. Anywhere that isn't Sas's house is crappy. Anywhere that is Sas's house is the greatest place in all the world.Originally posted by doodab View PostYou said you went drinking in the windmill, which is a two minute walk from where i used to live. I live in what agents call the Toast Rack near Wandsworth station. Very far from being a tulip hole.
You on the other hand seem to live in the crappy part of Wimbledon, yet refer to it as the "Village". You make me larf.

You do realise the reason house prices have become stupid in your area is because people with only a million to spend have been priced out of the nicer areas don't you?

PS How's Wimbledon "Village", as you call it?

This year is the 180th anniversary of the Windmill, originally a coaching inn, I believeOriginally posted by RSoles View PostGlad to hear the Windmill's still going.
As a student in the 70s I used to live in Halliday Hall across the road from it.
You could see my bedroom window in a scene from 'Danger UXB' which was filmed partly in Halliday and partly in the school next door.

The simple fact is you can't afford to live in Wandsworth because you're too poor. Stick to the paradise that is the North EastOriginally posted by DimPrawn View PostLooking at Google maps, Clapham Junction looks pretty close to Wandsworth to me. But hey, yeah, lets all live somewhere where there are riots 500m away and pretend it's all loverly jubbly.
