As the West Point study states, “Of the 112 Libyans in the Records, 54.4% (61) listed their ‘work.’ Fully 85.2% (51) of these Libyan fighters listed “suicide bomber” as their work in Iraq.”6 This means that the northeastern Libyans were far more apt to choose the role of suicide bomber than those from any other country: “Libyan fighters were much more likely than other nationalities to be listed as suicide bombers (85% for Libyans, 56% for all others).”7

I support (in principle) people who fight for their freedom against tyrants.

Just because some members of terrorist group join them or claimed to have joined won't affect my support. It's very convenient for tyrants to claim rebels have bad elements (who doesn't), but it should be discounted so long as it's not material.

Now if Al Quaeda becomes substantial force like it happened with Taleban and after winning freedom in local territory they start training or planning for attacks, then it's another matter altogether.

As for disgrace I think given your support for Putin you've got no leg to stand on.

In an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Mr al-Hasidi admitted that he had recruited "around 25" men from the Derna area in eastern Libya to fight against coalition troops in Iraq. Some of them, he said, are "today are on the front lines in Adjabiya".

Mr al-Hasidi insisted his fighters "are patriots and good Muslims, not terrorists," but added that the "members of al-Qaeda are also good Muslims and are fighting against the invader".

His revelations came even as Idriss Deby Itno, Chad's president, said al-Qaeda had managed to pillage military arsenals in the Libyan rebel zone and acquired arms, "including surface-to-air missiles, which were then smuggled into their sanctuaries".

Mr al-Hasidi admitted he had earlier fought against "the foreign invasion" in Afghanistan, before being "captured in 2002 in Peshwar, in Pakistan". He was later handed over to the US, and then held in Libya before being released in 2008.

Listening to the Libyan information minister chappie yesterday - and it also reminded me of Comical Ali.

The site of him standing in central Baghdad denying that the Americans were there - prompting Sky cut to their reporter with a platoon of yanks on the other side of the expanse of wherever they were - who politely asked the commanding officer if there were truly in Baghdad because "that guy over there says we aren't really here".

Last time I checked, he was never charged with the rest of the Saddam regime, in large part because he simply knew nothing
