But I decided to stay in Zurich and did a search on jobserve.

Yep, agreed. Got by for 25 years, then screwed up big time.

Everybody makes mistakes, but biggest mistake was having it happen in West Cumbria, the contractor's graveyard.

And unless you had just lashed out the deposit on a new house rent, just paid 6 month's rent up-front (because you're a contractor), just come back from a card-maxing holiday, and just paid your VAT.
