Well, the soft touch treatment by the media of certain religeons is basically cowardice on their part.
Regards the "vomiting in the a**ehole of JC" can you ever imagine the same fellow trying the 'joke' using Mohammed instead of Jesus Christ?
Eternalnomad I'd be very interested to hear the excuse the BBC give you.

If islam is such an obvious target, why is it singled out for a conspicuous policy of 'soft touch' treatment by the general media...?
Just because the majority of christians have a sense of proportion about humour does not mean they should be allowed to 'fair game' if other religions are not... (and for the record I am an atheist).
Remember the furore over the Life of Brian, or the Not the Nine oClock News sketch about the general synod ... complaints made - yes indeed..... trains blown up in Madrid and London where there is a mix of sexes, races, religions, nationalities, ages, for fecks sake no way....
The only reason most newspapers shy away from treating the islamic trend towards violence with more column inches is that they fear they and their companies will be targeted by the same people, who are frankly a bunch of lunatics.
P.S amongst the horrors on www.ogrish.com there is a lovely scene of a potential car bomber in Iraq who ended up being stopped by gunfire, then the artillery shells in his car were blown up by a bomb disposal robot - with him still in it... the laconic comment from a US soldier surveying what is left of it is 'well.... I guess this is what he came here to do.....'

I recently went to a comedy show by an ex BBC comedian whose tag line for the entire comedy night was "and so there I was vomiting into the gaping a*s*hole of Jesus Christ"
Personally I don't think its double standards. Christianity teaches to turn the other cheek to such insults. In fact the bible for me seemed to take into account that fact that christians will have to put up with some sort of insult as part of their faith, I guess this is from early christianity when the bible was being written and they were persecuted and ridiculed for their beliefs.
Islam however expressily forbids the image of Mohamad(sp?) to be shown in any shape or form but then Islam is a much older religion comparable to judasim in age which itself preaches an eye for eye. Infact the death toll in the old testament is astounding to say the least.
Maybe islam needs some modernisation or maybe the media, for once, could ignore the cocks who make up the minority of the islamic population of this country.
Anyway, any religion is there for the sake of the believers, not for the non-believers. If you are going to say something that will be found to be insulting to a religious group then you do need to accept some backlash. Christianity is an easy target, islam (currently) is an obvious target.

That's exactly it.
When it comes to printing pictures of soldiers beating up Iraqi locals - which might endanger the soldiers' lives - it's in the public interest and good journalism.
When it comes to printing cartoons so everybody knows what the fuss is about- which might endanger the journalists' lives - it would be insensitive.

Then in that case expel muslim 'activists' who behave in this way from western Europe.
Send them to mecca by al queda airlines. Without enough fuel to quite reach the airport.... with a baggage hold full of pigs blood, the autopilot switched on the controls disabled.

Do you seriously think that a responsible broadcaster would produce a program that mocked Islam? I doubt that it is anything to do with being PC, but rather the desire to lead a normal life.
Salman Rushdie had to go into hiding with Special Branch protection after writing the Satanic Verses. A few cartoons led to the torching of some embassies, several deaths, and a crippling hit to Denmark's exports esp. bacon and beer.
In contrast, if someone mocks Christianity, one sandle wearing cardigan clad chap might in a fit of pique write a letter to the Times saying something like "I say old chap, this won't do you know, it's not cricket".

Absolutely
The sacred cow that is Islam must be allowed to trample over every other creed and faith for fear of provoking the militant Islamic youth into packing a suicide bomb.
Speaking as an avowed atheist - I find all of these 'faiths' repugnant, nasty, medieval and irrational.
Perhaps more atheists should strap a bomb to their backs and cry "there is no fecking God you morons!" before pushing the button.Last edited by bogeyman; 23 March 2006, 13:03.

Double standards on the BBC (for a change)
The BBC have once again shown double-standards in its broadcasts.
As we all recall, the Beeb made sure that none of their programs displayed those "deeply offensive" cartoons depicting Mohammed (pbuh) in various poses that upset all those peace loving and tolerant muslims.
Last night, I happened to catch BBC2's "Desi DNA" program (which for those that dont know is a "Asian arts, culture and entertainment show")
During the show they quite happily broadcast an asian fella reading lengthy passages from the poem by James Kirkup called "The Love That Dares To Speak Its Name" which infers Jesus was a homosexual including those where Jesus gets his c0ck sucked by a roman centurion etc.
I am all for free-speech and dont actually object to the poem - but I do object to the double-standards that the BBC seem to apply to its content.
My argument is simple, why in Britain 2006 you can happily broadcast poems about Jesus having his c0ck sucked by a roman centurion but you better not dare to publish a few cartoon about Mohammed.Tags: None
