The BBC's Adam Brookes in Washington says a major show of force is being carried out in the hope of creating a cycle of escalating violence which could lead to civil war.
Aha, so its the old divide and rule tactic, if you cant beat the insurgents then forment a civil war,that way when theyre too busy at each other throats to pose any problems to your army you loot the countrys Oil, plus you dont get an Islamic Government in charge.
Remember those Briitsh Army soldiers caught in Basra dressed as Arabs with a car full of bombs... the mind boggles.
