This house is full of halogen ones, some 12v some 240v. Since actively following my kids about turning them off and generally becoming my Dad I've halved the leccy bill.

I've got a box full of old fashioned incandescents from when I took them all out and replaced them with low energy ones. I'll keep them until you luddites get desperate and then flog them for a premium.

Hey, has anyone heard one of those new-fangled CDs yet?

Not sure if it was this article but it'll do.

I bought a dozen 100w bulbs last year from flea bay.

The sellers warehouse was local to me so bowled down there to pick them up rather than rely on Royal Mail to deliver them in one piece.

    Once of the comments:
i bought loads of them when the supermarkets were selling them for 10p. i'm alright jack pull up the ladder.

I don't think I've got any left and haven't had for quite a while. I might have 1 spotlight in the attic that's still an old incandescent bulb.

The thing I don't get, the thing the really winds me up, is the replacements are poisonous to the environment with the mercury they contain.

But then there's the argument they last longer.

Let me tell you something, operate the incadesent variety <75% of rated and they'll operate for gallzions of years.

PS: Yes I acknowledge they consume more power,

In the big shops yes, and I think 60W and then 40W will soon or have already been phased out too, from those sources. I think small hardware shops still sell them though.

I've got about 20 something of them left in the cupboard.. bought them en mass when I hard they were going out of fashion.

In an effort to prolong the life I've installed dimmer switches, you know I don't recall the last time I replaced one. Typical.

Got some 60 and 40w for lamps and uplighters but haven't used 100w bulbs in years even for overhead lights.

I'll be sorry to see them go.

Ah, what beautiful bright white light. Instant too. I turned on my desk lamp, which has a 60W incandescent bulb, and what light through yonder lamp breaks! What a difference from my room light, which isn't good to read by and takes 10 minutes to warm up properly.

I've got no 100W incandescents left and my 60W desk lamp bulb may be my last surviving decent light source, apart from the summer sun. A bit remiss, because a dose of good old fashioned light is a pleasure to behold.

Think I might check out the local hardware store and buy a few bulbs before they become too expensive or even extinct.

I know, 100W is such an extravagance.

Working...
