    When my Broadband went down last year, I thought, haha, no problem, whipped out the laptop and the 3G dongle...

    But the underlying problem was at the telephone exchange - and by co-incidence that exchange had a nice mobile phone mast perched on top of it - the same bloody mast that my dongle was trying to access 3G through

    C'mon dear chap, get yourself an APC 5000VA UPS and it will kick in automatically and you won't even realise.

    And in a few years, just buy a portable generator that's slaved to your mains for a seemless switchover when the windmills fail to provide the peak load supply.
