Indeed. Or, in Matt Lucas' case, only the Jewish ones...Originally posted by gingerjedi View PostTo portray only the white characters as ridiculous would have been patronising shirley?

I can see I'm in the minority here (no pun intended) but Matt Lucas' representation of the black waitress (in particular) was undoubtably racistHow else could they represent a cross section? To portray only the white characters as ridiculous would have been patronising shirley?Originally posted by TelegraphAll of the characters in Come Fly with Me are ridiculous, but their ridiculousness is to do with their personality and behaviour, not with the colour of their skin.

Errrrrmmmmm, by using actors perhaps?Originally posted by CheeseSlice View PostI didn't think anything of the blacking up personally. If you want to act as a black person to represent the make up of our population, you need to do it somehow. Remember that all central characters are performed by Matt and David, with only secondary roles by other actors.
However I did grimace whilst watching the Japanese school girl sketch. That was wrong on so many levels

Jeez, it clearly has become acceptable again.Originally posted by MarillionFan View PostI think that misplaced accusations of racism are just as damaging as racism itself. I was once rounded on by three idiots who accused me of being racist because I liked Jim Davidson! FFS. Knobheads all three of them.
I wonder if the OP is one of them.

For the record, as you're the one who likes Jim Davidson I don't think it's me who's the knobhead

The flaming and posturing going on in the comments below the article are a lot funnier than the show.Originally posted by norrahe View PostSame here, it looked promising, but not very funny really.
I was quite surprised though to see this article in the Telegraph
(I hope the old boy signs up with CUK)

The 'blacking up' bit is acceptable as they are playing characters(they did it in Little Britain as well) as opposed to being overtly racist.
