    Italy

Look out for "servizio incluso" when you dine out in Italy as this means the bill already includes a service charge of up to 20% (although more normally 15%), so no more is expected. As for taxi fares, plan to pay 10% of the fare to the driver and give a €1-2 tip for room service.
    Spain

When Spaniards dine out, they typically leave only a few coins if anything at all after a meal, and only if they have them to hand. Waiters are likely to expect no more than a €1-2 donation (more if you are dining in an upmarket establishment), as are taxi drivers and hotel staff.
Any Spaniards on the board confirm this - if so, I've been over tipping for years !

    France
Oh la la, it could well be a faux pas in France to leave a large tip ... Whatever your bill, just €1-2 is enough whether it's for a taxi, meal or room service.
Ditto I always do the 0-15% thaaang

Same here and when the service is added as optional, I strike it off and pay the tip (my percentage, rather than their suggestion) in cash rather than card as some unscrupulous eateries use it to top up the staff salaries.

Working in the US where many make their wage from tips I always tipped generously at the start of an evening in the bar rather than at the end. Quality serviced ensued to the point of being stalked no matter how busy the bar got.

I often wonder why we all tip the pizza delivery guy but we don't do the same for other deliveries - most workers are on or near minimum wage

As we all earn above average money it is incumbent upon us all to spread some of that money around - I went for a meal with three colleagues last Friday - the bill came and I suggested a tenner tip which caused some debate. I mentioned that the combined daily take of the three of us was over £1500 & the tip effectively meant £3.33 each which didn't seem such a huge amount!
I don't tip the pizza delivery guy and only tip the Tesco/Asda/other guys at Christmas.
It is an interesting point you raise though. If you go to get your hair done you are almost obliged to tip the person that washed your hair, but you are not obliged to tip the person on the till at your local supermarket - despite the fact that they earn roughly the same.
Why do we tip cabbies and not traffic wardens? It's a real quandry isn't it?

Customer services called and said they'd be refunding the delivery charge so I tipped the guys the same.

Tesco did a great job delivering this morning, parked the van as close as they could and walked to the house. They also refunded the delivery charge because they were a bit late.
