Thanks, I'll ask Ela, my cleaner, to get the Dyson on it.

The kittens are safe I think, but confirmation would be good.

Seems to both charge and discharge quickly - 30mins each.

I'm thinking, just get another laptop.

Is it easy to back up everything and dump it on a new one?

    Currently XP.

Sometimes the lost capacity can be recovered by doing a full discharge (WZS).

To do this you will need to run the battery down until Windows shuts the computer down (usually with 3% remaining) and then restart and go into the BIOS setup until the computer turns off. You may well find that the last 3% takes a long time. Emptying the battery enables the battery electronics to recalibrate the empty point.

Then recharge the battery and see if the wear has reduced.

    Thanks...

I have noticed that the laptop shuts down at around 17%

    I'll try this...
