Four times if you count the Spanish Armada
Five times if you count that French Exchange kid who's head I kicked in in 1984! An 'Away' fixture as well.

Myself and my family as well Lucifer!

When I'm with my wife in her village in Hungary, they make the greatest sausages from freshly slaughtered pigs - a village event where everything is shared.

I cannot tell you how fantastic the freshly made sausages taste - the only ingredients being pork, paprika and spices and a little cooked rice filler.

It's an amazing taste - you really notice the difference when they don't add sodium nitrate preservative to it like they do in the supermarkets.

Four times if you count the Spanish Armada, whose purpose was to transport across the Channel a Spanish army camped in the Netherlands. I think the army sloped off after the Armada was wrecked and scattered (wouldn't swear to it though).

Read somewhere that it now takes about 42 days from hatching to produce a chicken.

Which probably can't stand up because its legs are too weak to support it...

(Gosh, that was close, just removed a grocer's's apostrophe..)

You're welcome, hyperD. I feel passionately about the quality of the stuff me and my family eat and also about cutting the rapacious supermarkets out of the supply chain. Everyone should try the Devon Rose dry cure apple-smoked bacon (sample available on eBay for one of your Earth pounds... Apple-Smoked Bacon) - if you did you would never buy some water injected, grey and tasteless supermarket sh1te ever again.

Good sites there, Louis Cypher, thanks. I shall look them up.

If people only looked at the sh1te in microwave and junk food and wonder why asthma, psoriasis, allergies are on the increase then rather blame pollution, start looking at the hormones and chemicals people are ingesting each year thanks to supermarkets.

The impact on their immune systems must be phenomenal.

Ban supermarkets, encourage local farming markets. Technology can make it viable to even the most hardened, single, overworked commuter.

Can second hyperD's choice of Abel & Cole, I use them to supply my vegetables and fish - would never go to a supermarket again, the quality is just so superior.

As previously mentioned, I use www.devonrose.com for meat because of they hefty discounts they give if you buy in bulk (10% for £50, 20% for £200, or a whopping 30% for £350), but there are many, many others. These are another one I have used... www.farmhousedirect.com/.

Just say no to supermarket sh1te.

    Re: The French

The answer is to buy direct from farmers, but what if you don't live near a farmer? It's just not practical to pop out to Somerset on a Thursday evening to get some lamb. As a result, we're forced to rely on racid junk from the chain supermarkets.
    www.abel-cole.co.uk/

    www.donaldrussell.com/

There are plenty of websites that offer great tasting food unlike the bland, overfarmed cr@p you get from Netherlands etc that supply Tescos, Sainsburys etc

I bought a Tescos organic chicken that was grey, watery and slimy compared to the Able & Cole farm reared chicken which tasted meaty and full of flavour.

The problem with food is that supermarkets are destroying taste. Go to any Farmer's Market and pick up fresh vegetables and fruits, some organic, that taste great without covering them in sauces.

Problem is, the real cost of meat is higher than you expect from supermarkets but the taste outweighs that. We have got used to supermarket sh1te food at bargain bucket prices and expect that is the normal price for meat. It isn't. Meat has always been fairly pricey, it's just that supermarkets have forced prices down at the expense of taste and quality.

Have you ever cut your own asparagus and cooked it with butter and black pepper? Wonderful... not to be confused with the grey-green, bland tasting offerings from Tescos...

I have no problem with the French - it is just that corrupt, reptile, slimeball Chirac I cannot stand. His pomposity and that permanent sneer/snigger/smirk..........I must calm down... time for some hot cocoa.

Since this thread is descending into knocking the French (I've got no problem with that), I'll help steer it in the right direction.

Going to war without France is like going deer hunting without an accordian.

In both cases you leave behind some noisy baggage.

    Sounds expensive?
    Nope, £7.50 flat charge.

They also sell some limited samples on eBay for a quid, so you can try a little bit first before committing. For example...

    Pate
    Sausages
