again from BBC News. (What?, me, bored, surely not?)

Ethiopia has arrested thousands of members of the Oromo ethnic group over the past three months, according to Amnesty International.
The London-based human rights group said students were among those who have been rounded up since November.

Amnesty said the arrests follow protest calls by the rebel Oromo Liberation Front against alleged government fraud.

It warned some of the detainees may be "at risk of torture or ill-treatment" and called for their release.

Does anyone know why amnesty International is telling everyone in Europe about this outrage in Africa? Why aren't they complainaing long and loud in the streets of Ethiopia? Oh, of course, because they'd be arrested and jailed before being beaten up or killed. Still, a bit of angst is good for the soul they say? (whaddya mean, what soul?)
