I stand corrected, the old commodities exchange, primarily but not exclusively of cotton and textiles to be precise..

That was the beer exchange (or something like that). Bar prices would be on the screens showing small movements and then there would be an occasional price crash.

The Royal Exchange Theatre is in what was many years ago an actual stock exchange

Managed to get in contact with an old mate who says I can crash as his later. Just got to work out where the hell Monsall is and I'm sorted.

For places to eat out you might want to consider The Modern, a restaurant at the top of Urbis, a modern take on british food. City center based, good view, decent food, get there just before sunset to impress.

Another recommendation is Stock restaurant, a decent Italian set in Manchesters old stock exchange.

Room serves good modern takes on British food, the menu doesn't read that stellar but the food is excellent IMO, located at the top of King Street in the old gentlemen's club.

If it's more rustic food you're after then I'd highly praise the spanish tapas at El RIncon de Rafa, not the easiest place to find but well worth the visit and reservations are a good idea.

For cheap quick bite to eat evening meal I'd recommend Ning malaysian restaurant in the northern quarter, simple good asian food.

Good quality gastro pub food is what you're after then I'd head to The Ox in Castlefield

Chinese is what you're after? then head to Little Yang Sing in China Town

For cocktail bars there's only really 2 IMO, Obsidian for the more formal experience and the very busy and fairly hard to find Socio Rehab in the Northern Quarter which is the best cocktail bar in Manchester IMO.

    Enjoy..

EDIT: other options are available further out but I was assuming you'd be city centre based

I've never liked the idea of going there after a friend showed me this review..

I'd recommend Lal Haweli but only because my old favourite (of which I've now forgotten the name) has now closed down I believe.

Btw, MF if you fancy a decent curry in Manchester head to "Akbars".

All the good places to eat are in Rochdale. Seriously! Well other than the places in Rusholme.
