    But isn't that the great thing about ale? Apart from a few generic beers you get to sample the local brew.

    Around here it's mostly Butcombe, Cheddar and Bath Ales. Drive 20 miles south and it will be Exmoor, Cotleigh and Moor Beer Co. Drive another 20 miles and you'll be in Piddle and Badger country.

    Not to mention all the zider farms in between.

    Ale's definitely out - that's a winter drink for me as is rough cider. In summer I prefer Blackthorn or a decent lager - especially when it's served from an ice encrusted jug from the freezer (though I've never come across any pubs over here that do that). Also partial to Tinto de Verano & Campari with soda.
