The opposite with me:

1st time - just wanted an automatic and booked a Mondeo, got given the keys to a Merc but the battery was flat so got given some big Vauxhall top of the range thing (if they have such a car, it was big though)
2nd time - once again just booked a Mondeo and got given a great big ****-off Volvo Turbo estate. That was fun
3rd time - wanted to give me a Mini, told them I couldn't drive one so got given a BMW X3
4th time - tried to give me a Merc A class but said no and got a nice new E class

Must be my looks

I once went for a Peugeot 205 Gti 1.9 only to be told they didn't have any. "Why are you advertising them heavily?", I asked.

Got a Merc instead, which was nice.

Back in permie days I used to go for Escort/Astra size cars and got some nice upgrades to Sierras-with-all-the-extras.

Probably charm rather than looks in my case.

funny thing is,

prior to this, I'd never been in a subaru, and had always assumed the propaganda to be true, subaru's are good etc etc

anyway, I can tell you, they are leagues below the standard which even the most basic passat sets

was back in blighty at the weekend and what a glorious weekend it was, weather was perfect in nice coat that jacket country

Taking pictures with a camera that turned out not to have any film in it. Just as well I took some with the toy digital too.

needed a rental car, and observing protocol rented the most trustworthy steed known to man, the passat diesel

got to the rental place at the airport and they didn't have any passat's left, they're a popular choice with those in the know

was relunctantly forced to accept a scooby legacy estate 2.0l petrol

and what a pile of pooh it was,

even the boot lid was made of plastic !!

was the first time I have driven a subaru and has certainly ensured the benes family will never become custodians of such tulip
