    my DNS reported the right IP but I still couldn't get in until the pm. Don't think host hacking would have worked or would it?

    FYI, Internet access at ClientCo probably uses a proxy server so changing the local Hosts file would not work. You'd need to change it on the server and they might not like you trying that.

    Sorry for that. The new forum required PHP 5.2 and the server the forum was on was 5.1. It was a plesk box and holds the main site so really did not want to be messing about with that so have moved the forum to another server. Forgot to update DNS until the last minute - ADMIN FAIL

    'Host hacking' refers to editing your hosts file to point forums.contractoruk.com to the IP mentioned... not simply typing http://the.ip.address.here
