There's nothing illegal about Usenet downloads and Uknova only post material that is not available to buy (yet). Not sure of the strict legality there.

TV is easy. We watch hardly any Aussie TV, UK TV is still much better and you can get *everything* you want (including BBC radio) from the net, from uknova for example.

People always bring up the culture thing about Aus but in Melbourne for example there is a year long stream of festivals. Currently it is comedy then Jazz, theatre etc. They do have theatres, museums and galleries here!

On the point about isolation, having lived in the US I felt far more isolated there. The news and media rarely mentioned anything outside US shores. Here the papers have lots of UK and World news stories and they even report all the football news and results.

I might miss some TV: University Challenge, Mastermind, QI. I might frig a way of watching them online. But part of it is the pride in knowing that no other country would do them.

Melbourne

I went to Melbourne for a year but ended up coming back when the tenants moved out... also for the richer culture of having Europe at your doorstep. Australia is great but a tad isolated.

Now though with Blair & Gordo ... they have shafted the country proper.

Also lived in Switzerland last year .. great being in the centre of Europe even though the Swiss are bit weird.

I guess Australia is still the best at the moment but it is getting just as expensive as here.

It's probably under commercialised, particularly on the islands. Beaches are generally small pebbles, however I know where the sandy beaches are, check out the village of Lumbarda on www.korcula.net.

Absolutely. The islands are even better: Korcula (my favourite), Hvar, Susak, Lastovo. All regularly served by cheap comfortable ferries. You'll find them all on the web. The weather is similar to Corfu. Plenty hot.

Absolutely. The islands are even better: Korcula (my favourite), Hvar, Susak, Lastovo. All regularly served by cheap comfortable ferries. You'll find them all on the web. The weather is similar to Corfu. Plenty hot.

Dubrovnik is a beautiful mediaeval walled city, nowhere else like it in Europe. However in 4 hours you've seen it all.

Then head for the port and hit the islands via the Jadrolinija ferries. You'll not regret it.

Slovenia is a relatively prosperous place, doing much better than Croatia. I never really understood why it was part of Yugoslavia, it's alpine rather than Balkan, and the people seem to have a more Western European mindset.

Oh, and the women are stunning.

I could live there.

Worked in Slovenia and Croatia and holidayed in Croatia, nice place, nice people as all the dodgy ones seem to be in Germany.

When the PM, running for re-election, says that he removed all regulation while he was chancellor because the banks asked him too and that he now realises that it was huge mistake and he should have considered the public good. You get an idea of the whole "I'm sorry but it was the right thing to do at the time" culture is all about.

What are you complaining about? People go round saying that Brown never says sorry and never says he was wrong. Now he does, and you say he shouldn't!
