There is a part of me that thinks a hung parliament lead by Brown could be the better outcome taking a medium term view.
It will trigger the gilt crisis that will force the government to deal with its spending and debt problems but the governing coalition would not be stable to last more than one year so another general election would have to be held.
An outright Labour win will also trigger the gilt crisis but the country would be stuck with a Labour government for another five years.

Don't think for a moment that a hung parliament will give you Dave plus Vince.
Senior Whitehall sources stressed tonight that Brown could remain prime minister and try to create a working majority even if the Tories were to win most seats.
