    I've used both TD and QC (actually used QC first then TD).
    The differences between the two are, I believe, in implementation and allow QC to run on a distributed environment rather than a single server.

    From a test manager / user perspective the UI is the same.

    I was glad to get the QC contract as now I have the keywords on my cv.
    I'd been turned down numerous times before because I'd used tools similar to, but not actually called QC/TD........

    And yes, I was once turned down when I applied for a perm testing job years ago because I didn't have QC (then TestDirector) experience, even though I had plenty of other similar tools on the CV. Crazy fools.


    k2p2, Quality Centre is the latest version of Test Director, it was renamed a few years ago I think (V9.0 onwards)

    I just used it for logging and pinging issues to people during system testing and UAT, no one ever bothered with it for scripting.

    As for overviews, its not exactly rocket science to use it.

    ...and I've never seen anyone successfully use the requirements tab let alone gain any value by doing so. There seems to be confusion. Some orgs expect to use it to contain all requirements but I believe its purpose is to hold testing specific requirements rather than business requirements.

    Same story for QTP also. During my testing days I used and liked Winrunner although the earlier versions were very buggy. COmpared to that, QTP 6.5 especially was rubbish. Can't remember all of my reasons now, but one thing they tried to make it more non-techy for non-techy testers/BA's etc to use but it just took away some of the flexibility that for example Winrunner offered

    It’s one of those thingummyjigs that supposedly does everything from inventarising requirements to logging findings to making the sun shine more often. Managers get conned into buying it after some salesman yaps at them about ‘synergies in the value chain’ and other such garbage. Personally I’ve seen freeware tools that are better and easier to use.

    Yeah , it's another crappy expensive HP/Mercury tool that is very easy to pick up, nothing much to learn really. You should be up and running with it with just a 30 minute overview.
