Beckham was always regarded as a model professional, the Milan doctor said he could be playing at the top level for the next 10 years, or summin like that.

Just think of poor Posh Spice... on the other hand I don't want her image in my head!

Maybe so, and I profess to know very little about football, except in a biomechanical, physiological or anatomical sense. And in those senses, I think there’s a small chance he could play. I’d be surprised if the effort wasn’t made to get him fit enough to play a part. Any bout of illness like flu or stomach upset would put back his recovery by a week at least and make it impossible. He’ll have to maintain his aerobic fitness without using his left ankle for the next 6 weeks, which can be done; he’ll need to do strength exercises using machines that avoid his ankle, which can be done. If he’s jogging after 8 weeks he could do it, if not then he won’t be playing in june.

Right footed is a disadvantage in this case. He’s knackered his left Achilles tendon; he’s likely to be stronger in his left leg as that’s what he uses to support himself when kicking a ball, and the Achilles tendon works hard to keep a kicker on the balls of his feet as he kicks. If it’d been the right tendon he might have had more chance of at least being able to play cameos. OK, I’m not a football expert, but I’m just looking at this in a biomechanical sense; I find it interesting to see how quickly an athlete can become useful again after such an injury. I wouldn’t give up hope altogether though. There are lots of variables; how bad is the tear, is it complete or partial? Is it a neat tear that can be easily stitched or is it a complex tear with different fibres ruptured at different points? How strong does he need to be to play a meaningful role?

For pure excitement level, you never fail, I mean everytime you get so wound up and people actually do think you are going to win it. It gets to the point where at least 10 times a day we are all "going across to the england camp" to have some moron drivel about taking "each game as it comes" and other such dull insights. Then when they go out someone always has to get the blame (Beckham twice now) and it's all tears before bedtime and how the competition will be poorer now they are not in it anymore.

Keep a link to this and we can come back in July and see how much I have got right.

    right footed

and no capello would not take him unless he is fully fit.

I think we made the mistake when we took him with his busted metatarsel - he pulled out of a tackle with Rivaldo which led directly to one of Brazil's Goals.

He will certainly go if he can move his legs and he'll get his 5 min substitution to increase his cap count further, he's got records to beat you know!!!

    seriously

Becks is a footballing icon of the last 10-15 years.

and he is still a damn good player - if he was fit he should be a shoe in -- however if he is not going to be fully match fit then he does not go.
