We've had the same number for 5 years now moved about 3 years ago so have never had contracts etc...

12 month or longer contracts have been around for quite a while.Originally posted by norrahe View PostSame here, unless you move to where there isn't an existing line, then that is when they will charge you.
As for 12 month contracts for a landline, when did that start?
With some sensible negotiation and pointing out that you're relocating the number and not cancelling there shouldn't be a need to sign a new contract.

I think you need to haggle.

BT line transfer
Hi Guys,
I always have this problem with BT line transfer they have very strict policy and always targeting my money!
Every time I move house they give me a new 12 month contract and if I want to cancel they ask for 70quid.
This time I have moved to a property which already has BT line and broadband (but not sure whether I be here for very long time … as I may relocate again in 2 month time….)
Now, I have 2 options either pay them 70 quid cancelation fee or 120quid for a new installation. And ofcourse agree to another 12 month contract.
I don’t really want to pay 70 quid to cancel my line because if I cancel it I may need it again in future address…
My preference is to have a landline over contract phone because most of my phone calls are to 0870 …0845 numbers … and sometime its not an option because its impossible to have Broadband without the landline ...
how do you guys do it?Tags: None
