Not as bad as telling you it's a low rate but at least it's long-term. I've never seen what's good about that.

Spot on attitude to have Mich and absolutely right, if we bend over and take it now you can bet in a years time you will still be touching your toes.

Unfortunately at the moment there are people who are desperate and will take the rate and no one can blame them but the more people that stand their ground the sooner we will get back some respect and decent rates for everyone

I've had 5 1/2 months at home not working now, and could do with getting out of the house - but not at that price.
Well done. I'm pretty much only in the local market ( bench dweller as of today ) as I know the rates on offer won't make it worth my while staying in hotels and putting up with all the associated tulip. For local work I'll go down to bob rates.

I didn't ask, as soon as the rate was mentioned I told them to bugger off...

How did we get into the position where the finding of our livelihood is dependent on people like that, and then we give one day's work every week to them?

I hope so. Then perhaps Billy* won't find it quite so easy to jump the queue.

As a matter of interest, how does the number of agencies compare between now and then (20 years ago)?

What we need are agents who know what they're talking about. I often get calls from agents who obviously have never read my cv. i get the impression they're just sweet young things, or spikey haired suits. After all xeroids moved from copiers to office systems then to double glazing then to estate agents then to financial advisors, then to banks each time they move they get more money and do even more damage. Perhaps our time has come or is this too righ wing for our present culture?

Another ugly practice I'm seeing now is agents who want the payment terms to be just as long as their client's payment terms; sometimes even 90 days. Now I know that if I worked direct I'd have to accept this, but what's the f**king point of the agent if I have to wait that long for the money?
