Pah - a mere 74 snatches? I see do that in a morning, and as for the clean and jerk, it's easier if you do it the other way round.

I know. He's had a load more snatches than me as well.Originally posted by HairyArsedBloke View PostMost here do a jerk and then clean.

There are studies showing increased rates of Osteo Arthritis in wieghtlifters (31% as opposed to 29% of footballers; statistically not a relevant difference given the small sample of 117 athletes), however, these were carried out on competitive weightlifters whose BMI might be 35 or even more, and who are lifting weights of 200% of their own body weight. Both the well known studies (Kujala et al and Manninen et al point out that the cause of OA among weightlifters is probably their high body mass, something which can be reduced after the competitive sports career, and as both studies point out, recreational physical activity will reduce the risk of OA. Slemenda et al found that there is a strong correlation between weak quadriceps muscles and the OA; since their findings, people who start weightlifting have been instructed to carry out specific exercises to strengthen the quadriceps as well as the gluteus which provides most of the power.Originally posted by zeitghostCoz they'll wear out.
Hence, with the right training, and carrying out olympic lifts at a low level (up to 100% bodyweight) as part of training for another sport, plus a proper 'detraining' after the competitive sports career should not give more risk of Osteo Arthritis than other sports.
Really, I read this stuff. I have to for plan B.Last edited by Mich the Tester; 4 December 2009, 14:26.

Finally managed 100kg for the clean and jerk.
Achieved the requirements for 'master kettlebell instructor' (74 snatches, 37 right, 37 left) with 24 kg kettlebell
On the concept 2, did my first sub 7min 2000 metres (6'57").
Weight still the same (100kg), need new trousers as beergut has completely disappeared.

You get more stuff done every Saturday morning when you're in work than I ever do in a month.
Saying you've done well is like congratulating Seb Coe & son for winning the father-and-son three legged race.
