I love to watch clapped out wannabee tv presenters flogging miracle car polish and other rubbish on the shopping channels. Their suffering is pure pleasure.

There is a guy on one of the auction channels who is a total genius at this. He'll be flogging an "exclusive figurine" of a Nubian princess or something, and does so with a straight face and apparent pleasure. He's one hell of an actor

On the bench, I had a penchance for afternoon Bergerac. I've been to Jersey a few times and quite like the place.

Also fond of Sharpe, although I seem to be the only young 'un that does. All the rest are at least 25 years older than me, and in their mid 60's.

A group of friends do Sharpe-era reenactment, and were asked to attend one of the episodes, since they knew the era, had their own costumes (saving the Beeb money, I guess) and equipment, and did public shows anyway.

They turned up on set for their filming, and had their own camp site at the end of the 1st day. They decided to invite one of the Sharpe actors (I'm not saying who) to their camp for some quality ales and tales.

He was a bit reluctant at first, but after much goading, and the promise of some ruff and tumble with display weaponry, he came along.

As the night progressed, it became apparent that the more he drunk, the more obnoxious and bombastic he got, until it culminated in him desperately trying to encourage one of their lasses back to his caravan-trailer.

She was having none of it, and things were looking decidedly unpleasant until her rescue came, in the form of her husband, who had arrived late. Think 6'2" ex-soldier / Hell's Angel.

Apparently, the aforementioned actor made a very hasty exit back to his trailer, and the re-enactors coined a new episode called "Sharpe's Retreat".

My Dad is a doppleganger for Jim Bergerac, extremely worrying.
